very interesting tool. i hope it forces mainstream media to be more conscious to what people actual want to listen to and talk about. interesting to see how the user-generated stuff is more how people feel and the news tries to present it as facts....or so they say atleast.

First of all, great website! I love the fact that it gets updated every few seconds :-)

It'd be nice if you had the option of seeing Ralph Nader, Bob Barr, Cynthia McKinney, and Chuck Baldwin's stats as well. They're not going to win, but they could have a big impact on the results of the November election (remember what Ralph Nader did in 2000?)

Besides, all four of them have repeatedly complained that they are ignored by the mainstream websites and news media. Maybe you could humor them and include them on your site, just so they won't complain so much...

Of course, not everyone wants to see six candidates at the same time, so perhaps there could be an option to toggle between showing/hiding each candidate's results.

Good colors to choose for these candidates would be: light green (Nader), dark green (McKinney, they both have connections to the Green Party), gold (Barr, gold is the Libertarian color), and orange (Baldwin, since he seems about halfway between the Libertarians and the Republicans).

    Keep up the good work!

True, i was slightly afraid that her speech may not be able to change what she said a few months ago to vote for McCain instead of Obama. Why didn't Obama choose Hillary for VP?
  • bmelc · 1 year ago
it wouldve been the most disfunctional of disfunctional relationships. Hillary wants to be president, not VP! But don't worry... Hillary's hooking up Obama now, but believe me, it's all self-serving because if she doesnt hook him up she'll be blamed for causing him to lose the election, plus she'll be sure Obama pays her back when she runs for President again in 2016.
  • da6669 · 1 year ago
McCain is actually benefiting greatly from all of the attention on Obama.

If more attention were paid to McCain, his voting record on veteran's issues might be talked about.

His conflicting positions on tax cuts, oil drilling, Iraq, torture, and a host of other issues might get reported.

His treatment of his first family might get reported. The lobbyists on his staff might be known to the public at large.

People might know about the 4 planes that he crashed before getting shot down in the 5th.

People may hear the confession tapes that he made while being brutally tortured in Hanoi.

People might know that he came in 894 out of a class of 899 in the naval academy.
People might realize that he doesn't know the difference between Sunni and Shia (unless Joe Leiberman is standing close by to help).

Yes, the under reporting on McCain is serving him well.
  • Pureprime · 1 year ago
Yes and all that might come out during the Republican Convention.
  • Pureprime · 1 year ago
I don't know, but i think he made the right choice by picking Joe. Joe has the foreign policy experiance that Obama is lacking. He made a good choice, but i admit Hillary would aslo have been a good VP. But then the fact that Bill would be there, and the large tension between him and Bill, so it might not work.
  • GabinskiyforMcCain · 1 year ago
On the contrary, it does not look good that Joe has spilled so much dirt on Obama and criticized his lack of experience. I do agree that the two could make a powerful duo but only if the media and the public can surpass all the negativism generated by Joe in the early parts of the presidential campaign. I mean lets remember that the conventions only last a few day, and whatever grievances that where fixed withing the democratic party might be overshadowed by all the commercials that are being generated by the McCain campaign depicting the dems as ill prepared for this election. Also, we have yet to get to the debates which most of all will be the defining factor for most Americans on which candidate will reach the presidential outcome.
  • bmelc · 1 year ago
And Obama will ROCK the debates. He's more articulate, a better, more thoughtful debater, a clearer communicator and will just look more believable and convincing onstage. It'll be Kennedy vs Nixon all over again... although i'm sure McCain's people won't let him sweat like a pig like Nixon did.

I'm all for a woman being President, however we need one that had made clear decisions on policy and really gone out to make a difference. I can't say that I've seen Hillary be an example for that. She's done well for herself, but lacks in taking care of the people she is supposed to be serving. I'm tired of the self-serving politicans. Our current government system is a bastardization of the original intent and we are on a road to self destruction. What leader can pull us out of our downward spiral? An inexperienced conservative republican VP isnt going to change that. This is obviously a cheap media ploy to shift media attention away from Obama's spot-on acceptance speech last night.

I'm from the Netherlands and I think when the American People choose for McCain, the make a very big misstake.
Americans think the Moslims hate them, but also the European people hates America. And 9-11 was terrible, but it would never happened when Clinton was your president.
Obama is the only person at this moment who can connect other countries and solve the problems in the Middel East and solve the problems with Russia. The world is not only America but the word says it the world.
When we want peace in the world the American people should choose Obama. McCain is more the same.
America please, don't make the misstake again, choose for peace, choose for Obama.

  • Mark · 1 year ago
You make some big claims, that you can't possibly back up with research.

You are voicing your opinion as though you are all of Europe and all-knowing about the rest of the world.

Your arrogance is a match for your supposed American arrogance. The world simply isn't as black and white as you pretend it is. Not even considering the fact that a President of the US isn't a dictator and does not have unlimited power. In fact, Congress has a lot of power as well, so no President alone can make or break peace or sustain a war for very long.
  • Remco · 1 year ago
It seems the Dutch love to give their opinions my fellow world citizens. So here's another one for you :-P
May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the Father of Jesus Christ Bless your nation. May the US be a guardian of Peace and a protector of the poor and oppressed, that you may never stop sacrificing your lives for these good things and for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
But never forget to walk humbly with your God and to love mercy.
McCain or Obama is not important although I would recommend the one with clear ethics.

  • Erik · 1 year ago
Nonsense, because this happened never before, only during the last 8 years when it was proclaimed that homeowenership is the summum bonum and had to be promoted at all cost. I find it cynical that you talk about reality, when it is obvious that all the republicans are doing is slinging mud and telling one lie after the other. Here is my reality: The last 8 years were the worst the US have seen for a very long time, with incredible government spending, an unnecessary war, debt as far as the eye can see, a housing bubble promoted by inept governing, a flat stock market, soaring health-care costs, soaring gas prices, rising unemployment, and teaching adam and eve at public schools. Another reality for you is the reality of prosperity and bliss under Bill Clinton. Yet another reality for you is the fact that the stock markets have, on average, fared better under Democratic leadership than under Republican leadership.
  • Derick Valadao · 1 year ago
I think McCain's speech was far better, in terms of content, than Palin's. Sarah Palin, while enigmatic without a doubt, was simply FUD for the Republican base. McCain attempted to reach out and grab voters in the key battleground states tonight. However, I still found it to be weak. Too many platitudes without any substance to back them up. He talked about taxes, health care, education, the economy, and other issues but only answered "How?" to the education issue. Even then, his education policy sounds like a repeat of "No Child Left Behind" from the Bush administration. We already know that doesn't work.

No style, very little substance. Obviously a respectable man and a brave soldier, but soldiers deserve respect and honor, not votes. Vote for people with plans, not stories.

I'm from Holland too. And I do not agree with Martijn. Europeans don't hate America. We have a lot to thank the USA for. The thing we don't like is, that in the last eight years mr George W. Bush is pointing his finger to a lot of other countries in the world telling, them that they are "vilain"states or appeal to their moral standards even treaten them with war, and in the mean time Bush is starting a war in Irak based on lies. The USA is holding prisoners in Guantanamo bay without giving them a honest proces. etc. etc. I don't say that Bush is not right about those other coutries and moral standards are verry important but how can you expect other countries to take you seriously when you don't practise those high moral standards yourself?
  • OZZ · 1 year ago
Stefan, I fully agree with you!

I find it interesting that the twitter.com-map above is completely democratic..Doesn't that mean democrats are more open to this innovative way to connect to friends and relatives across the globe? Aren't democrats the early adopters of this new way to connect and relate?

I've never had the pleasure of meeting a Republican outside of the United States. I have a feeling the reason lies in that not many Republicans go abroad to places like Europe, Oceania, Asia South America and Africa...Republicans don't seem too eager to meet the world at large. They seem eager to accept the world as it is, because 'that's reality' and do little to understand more about it, to explore it. Both democrats and Republicans have factions that are guilty of closed mindedness and shortsightedness, just the Republicans have more of them. 'Small Town Values' from the South and West. People that have lived lives sheltered from the outside world. Is it strange? No. Is it bad? Not if they weren't responsible for choosing the last president, twice!

The world is pleading to the Bible Belt: do the rest of us one good Christian courtesy and give us a president that understands Iraq was a mistake to begin with. That the question of abortion relates to a difference in belief (or faith) about when life can be called life and therefore is outside the jurisdiction of a country's government (Church-State separation, like the Founding Fathers intended), meaning it cannot forbid it.

Don't keep the world hostage to Small Town Values, whether in the Judeo-Christian tradition, Mohammedan, Hindu or Buddhist. The peoples of world need to find their common ground, which is not found following those clinging to local traditions, but by following those who try to communicate across cultures, those who explore and try to understand the communities outside the borders of their town, state or country.

    @ David

You're a Democrat voting McCain? Can you tell the people why?

I just don't find it logical to vote for a 72 year old war-scarred veteran with a reputation for having a foul-mouthed temper and a small-town creationist hockey mom who up till a couple of months ago would not have seen herself sitting in the VP seat.

So what makes Obama so off-putting that you feel you have to choose these unlikely candidates?

    Is he too arrogant?
    Too Black?
    Too smug?
    Too cool?

I'm not saying Obama's going to fix America, nobody can do that, but between the two, he seems to be the one who understands a bit better the cultures of the world, understands that the stance on abortion is faith-based and therefore a government cannot prohibit it, understands taxing the rich means you can help the poor better, understands that drilling for more oil doesn't solve the problem of the America's addiction to it, understands that people by nature have prejudices and that we need to accept and work with that fact by communicating about it.

In America politics is all show, sound-bites, low punches and above all a lot of talk. Obama's talk however seems to me a bit more substantive that McCain's So again I ask you. Why vote for McCain?
  • george · 1 year ago
They splashed McCains service and his being a P.O.W. for four days of the convention and said, pretty much nothing else. How does being a P.O.W. for 5 years give one the credentials for being the next President? They should shower this guy with medals, and give him his due, but that's about it! If he's talking about his years in the Senate and his record, that's the focus. So, where's the beef!!! Start talking. Say, "I, along with President Bush, squandered our nations resources, put us in major debt, created grillions for the already rich and made everyone else poorer".
  • shadow_monkey · 1 year ago
Honestly I'd like call attention to the realm of education. Why haven't the candidates spoken more about that socio-economic dynamic of our society. I will be entering college next year and I'm worried about the usual college woes: admissions, housing, and fitting in. Beyond that I am wondering what does McCain and Obama offer a future college student in the way of student financial help. Whether it be tax breaks for low income families with a student enrolled in college, special student loan help, or enforced standards for the loan industry to students.
I am not a member of DC schools but, take special interest in them due to my proximity. I would like to address the need for more innovative research in tools teachers can use to help children learn. The No Child Left Behind Act holds schools and teachers responsible, good. BUT, if our children are failing we shouldn't be punishing their school for that but rather providing them with more assistance to better educate them.
I also would like to say that standardized testing, which President George Bush made mandatory for every state, is lowering the bar on education. We set lower and lower standards to which our teachers are required to teach thus harming the overall purpose and goal of the education system. We need teacher that are motivated to teach student and HELP them grasp concepts and forward themselves. More should be done about the fact that our present system does NOT help pull up failing students, but rather push them down even further.
I ask all of you to think about the education system in America and how it is failing our kids, and our future. MAKE THIS AN ISSUE. It effects American economy, foreign policy, and every major section of debate. Put it front and center alongside healthcare, the economic woes, and the war on terror.

Couldn't agree more, in fact poor education seems to be getting politicians elected that cater to what under-educated people want to hear but are unable to grasp the truth behind:

    - Lower taxes (for the rich, poor people pay relatively more),
    - Terrorists hate our freedom (its not about our freedom, its about meddling in their affairs to get their oil),
    - Health care is better off privatized (so health insurance and pharmaceutical companies can thrive and poor people can die, literally, people die because of this system),
    - The schools and teachers are to be held accountable for poor performing students (so the government can be absolved of any accountability and cut funding at their whim),
    - We honor the men and women risking their lives for our freedom (by cutting subsidies for veteran's health care, cutting soldiers' pay, not even helping the firemen who helped save people in the 911 attacks)
    - We care about those poor families struggling to make ends meet (to continue supplying our army new soldiers, to stay stupid so we can stay rich, to hold on to the idea of 'small town values' which nobody seems able to define, and is really another way of saying 'scared of a big outside world where people don't greet each other in the street and where I have to lock my door).

Education, Health Care, Culture! And why isn't anybody fixing those poor roads, those failing bridges, those beaten-up trains and buses that nobody wants to ride on? Whatever happened to maintaining your infrastructure?

Just saw McCain on the view and the guy looks so uncomfortable. The ladies aren't going easy on him, but the make some valid points I think, not the least of which is the seperation of church and state. McCain says he would trust the legislative body to do its work independently from him, so his Christian faith doesn't meddle in their affairs. But he'll appoint people that have a strict traditional interpretation of the constitution which in turn is rooted in the judeo-christian tradition.

Strict tradtional interpretation but keeping into account the need to adjust two a global world with different traditions and that when these countries have governments that are traditional, it means that they're gonna have a real hard time understanding each other.

We need a guy who can commiunicate with people from other traditions, who has experienced these differences in a non-traumatic fashion, a man who has related intensely with both his world and his country.

I know a lot of Americans are traditional, but as a foreigner I am baffled by the degree of conservatism. And the contrast it poses against the progressive way of thinking. In a society, each persuasion has its role of balancing the other. One side starts to exaggerate, the other reels him in. Bush has exaggerated a lot.

We need a heavy progressive weight to balance that one.

I guess he's got Michelle. IT IS SAD; THAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY PICKED OBAMA... A MAN WHO SAYS HE IS A CHRISTIAN, BUT HE REFUSED TO BE SWORN IN AS SENATOR WITH THE BIBLE. HE KNEW TERRORISTS {FRIEND WAS ONE OF THOSE INVOLVED ON 9/11}. TELLS EVERYONE HOW REV. INSPIRED HIM {BUT MESSAGE GIVEN WAS THAT GOD SHOULD ^**$%@ AMERICA, NOT BLESS IT}. HE WAS ONE OF THOSE WHO WAS INVOLVED IN FANNIE MAE AND FREDDIE MAC. HE CLAIMS HE HAS BEEN A SENATOR WITH A PROVEN RECORD; YET HE DIDN'T VOTE ON 100 PLUS ISSUES. NOT TO MENTION HOW CAN HE BE DOING HIS JOB WHEN HE HAS BEEN ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL FOR THE PAST YEAR PLUS? HE SUPPORTS KILLING UNBORN BABIES; WHAT IF HIS MOTHER HAD ABORTED HIM? "PROJECT COORDINATOR" HE WAS INVOLVED IN PICKING THE CONTRACTORS IN CHICAGO, WHICH BUILT THE "PROJECTS" BUT THESE UNITS HAD TO BE CONDEMNED ONLY AFTER EIGHT YEARS OR SO, BECAUSE OF POOR WORKMANSHIP AND BAD MATERIALS... BUT YET HE WAS WELL PAID... CRIMINAL TIES TO A MAN WHO IS NOW IN JAIL; AND THIS GUY HELPED HIM GET HIS HOUSE?

I FEAR THAT IF THIS COUNTY ELECTS THIS MAN, HE WILL SEND OUR COUNTY INTO ANOTHER DEPRESSION, AND ONCE THIS HAPPENS HE WILL "DECLARE MARTIAL LAW" AND OUR SOCIETY WILL BECOME A SOCIALIST GOVERNMENT, OR AN "OBAMANATION". I ALSO QUESTION HIM ON RACE, THE MAN IS HALF WHITE, BUT THE MENTION OF THIS BRINGS OUT HOSTILE COMMENTS FROM HIM; LIKE HE SAID ABOUT HAVING A RACIST GRANDMOTHER {DIDN'T THEY LIKE RAISE HIM!!! & LOVE HIM. AND DIDN'T THEY SEND HIM TO THE BEST SCHOOLS TOO?}.

McCain is a man of action. With all the media coverage of yesterday's events concerning McCain and Obama, no one in the media has mentioned, that a Republican intiated a call to Obama, suggesting that he call McCain to discuss putting forth a joint statement. Apparently the media wants to put their sponsership ahead of the country's welfare. The attitude that ,"The show must go on!", regardless of the cuurent threats that our country is facing, is appalling. Let's see some action from the candidates, and less showmanship! Is Obama afraid to take a position, and fight for it, without the aid of his advisors?
  • Victor Rodriguez · 1 year ago
The way I see it there are a few reasons why anyone would support John McCain and very little of it has to do with his stands on issues. If you are a McCain supporter you are either one or more of the following:
    1) You are not open minded
    2) You are a rich and selfish person
    3) You are gullible enough to believe anything your party tells you
    4) Your only source of information for the candidates comes from Fox News or other biased news sources
    5) You are a complete idiot or a religious fanatic
    6)
McCain and his whole ticket are a bunch of liars. Anyone who has been paying attention to both parties can see that. They have done nothing during this election other than find little things on Obama, twist them around to make them sound negative. Very little that McCain says about Obama is true and if you believe it you are misinformed.

McCain’s whole campaign is all about his war record. He wants to take credit for stuff that happened to him during the Vietnam War. He uses any opportunity to tell people his story. He is trying to use tactics to get elected instead of laying out his plans. There’s a reason for that, he knows that the minute he does lay out his plans, people will see right through it. This is why he refuses to have debates with Obama, and not only does he refuse to have debates with him, but he then turns it around and blames Obama for not meeting with him to have a debate. Is this really the kind of president you want?

That is right, McCain uses tactics to try and get elected and he is not even shy about it. However, people don’t see through this. Instead of picking the best person for the job as vice president, someone who would compliment him on the ticket and perhaps even be a good president if god forbid something were to happen to him, he uses tactics to try to get votes. He picks a woman hoping that women be stupid enough to flock towards her because of gender. They actually thought Hillary supporters would vote for her. They don’t stand for the same issues, how stupid do they think women are. I find that offensive and women everywhere should be appalled by this.

McCain also has gone through great lengths to keep Sarah out of the spot light. We have a right to know what she stand for, but she has only done 3 - 4 interviews compared to that dozens of interviews that Bidin has done. Why are they hiding her? How can anyone support this?

I know my words are strong and perhaps I shouldn’t be calling people stupid for supporting McCain. Perhaps I should say it’s more irresponsibility, instead of stupidity. Get out there and do research on your candidate. Don’t just take their word. They are politicians and they will tell you exactly what you want to hear. Read some news papers, listen to the speeches. Go to nonpartisan sites, Factcheck.org is a good one. I'm sure there are many more. And for god sakes do NOT, I repeat do not listen to ads, any of them. They are full of deception, misinterpretations, twisting of words and some of them even flat out lie.

I will be voting for Barack Obama, not because he’s a Democrat and not because he’s black. I am voting for him because I believe in my heart he has the good of the country for everyone in mind. His record has shown that. He believes in individual rights for everyone not just the select few. I am also voting for him because I don’t trust McCain or Sarah Palin. Why should I when they have lied to me over and over again. When McCain says that he wants to run a respectful campaign and not get involved in personal attacks and then he does just that, that is a lie in my book! When McCain constantly say that Obama will raise my taxes that is a flat out lie and he knows it. When he says that Obama is pro partial births abortions that is flat out lie! And lastly when he tells me that the war in Iraq has been a success, I mean come on, how stupid does he think I am. He’s counting on those stupid people to vote for him. McCain should really be ashamed of himself.
  • Logic · 1 year ago
It's pretty shocking to read all the ignorance, paranoia and hate coming from conservatives. I pay taxes, my country is in a mess and I'd like to hire a competent, intelligent person to run it. McCain's desperate political motives, from choosing Palin to trying and postpone a debate he doesn't want to have portray someone only interested in power. The Republicans are in a panic because their record is a disaster so they resort to Nixonian hateful and divisive tactics because they have nothing else to offer. Obama is a good man who wants to improve his country, the only reason this race is close is inherent racism and fear from people who strangely want to continue on the path we're on.

SAD BUT TRUE THAT THE ONLY THING OUR CONGRESS, SENATE, AND HOUSE LEADERS CAN AGREE ON IS A PAY INCREASE FOR THEMSELVES!. AND WE HAVEN'T HEARD THEM TAKING A PAY CUT WHILE OUR COUNTRY IS HURTING, AND WE NEED A PRESIDENT WHO CAN'T BE BOUGHT AND PAID FOR BY THE SPECIAL INTERESTS. LIKE OBAMA, AND WHO IS HE REALLY GOING TO BE PRESIDENT FOR? US AMERICANS? OR "ISLAM" ? WHO IS IN CONTROL OF ENGLAND? FRANCE? DENMARK? WORD IS ITS THE MUSLIM'S... AND 9/11 WAS NOT THE FIRST ATTACK OR THEIR LAST... WHAT BETTER WAY TO TAKE CONTROL THEN TO TAKE OVER OUR COUNTRY WITH THE HIGHEST OFFICE IN OUR POLITICAL GOVERNMENT!!! BE A AWARE OF WHAT YOU COULD BE VOTING FOR!

AS FOR OBAMA HAD HE PICKED HILLARY, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN HAILED AS A GENIOUS! BESIDES WHO'S TO SAY THAT THE DEM'S AREN'T IN A PANICK, AND THEY SUDDENLY RELEASE THAT BIDEN IS SICK AND HE PLACES HILLARY ON HIS TICKET HOPING TO PICK UP THOSE 18 MILLION DEMOCRATS WHO WANTED HILLARY, BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T TRUST OBAMA. {LIKE MY MOTHER, AND LIKE OTHER WOMEN I KNOW.} MY MOM "BIG TIME DEMOCRAT; CAN'T STAND OBAMA; SHE'S 71, FLORIDA RESIDENT AND KNOWS OF NO ONE WHO IS VOTING FOR HIM.

P.S. I AM A WOMAN, MARRIED, WERE NOT RICH, HAVE THREE CHILDREN, I'M NOT A RELIGOUS NUT, I'M AN AMERICAN NOT REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT, I LOVE THIS COUNTRY. THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS BEING GIVEN FREEBIES, WHEN I CAN'T AFFORD HEALTH CARE MYSELF...

OH" ON ABORTION. WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY THIRD CHILD {MIDDLE CLASS FAMILY INCOME}. I WAS TOLD THAT I SHOULD HAVE AN ABORTION BECAUSE MY DOCTOR BELIEVED THAT MY BABY WAS TOO SMALL, AND THAT THIS MEANT THAT SHE WAS NOT GETTING ENOUGH BLOOD OR OXYGEN... I TOLD MY DOCTOR THAT "JENNA" OR "JENNY" WAS ALWAYS MOVING. BUT THIS DID NOT SWAY HER FROM TELLING ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE THE ABORTION. I HAD THE "AMINO TEST"; IT CAME BACK NEGATIVE. AND YET SHE AND ANOTHER DOCTOR SHE WORKED WITH STILL, SAID I SHOULD ABORT! I DIDN'T. ON OCTOBER 10, 1997 I HAD A C-SECTION AND MY LITTLE JENNY WAS PERFECT! SHE WAS EVEN BIGGER THEN THEY BELIEVED SHE WOULD BE. THEY FIGURED "FIVE POUNDS", BUT SHE WAS SIX POINT FIVE.
AS FOR MY DOCTOR'S WHEN THEY SAW MY LITTLE PERFECT BABY THEY JUST SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS AND SAID I GUESS WE WOULD HAVE BEEN WRONG, TO ABORT HER.

FINALLY YOU CLAIM THAT PEOPLE NEED TO GET THE CORRECT INFORMATION, BUT THE FACT IS YOU HAVE HEARD THIS EVEN SPOKEN FROM OBAMA'S OWN MOUTH, WHEN HE'S BEEN CAUGHT ON TAPE. BUT YOU WANT TO FORGET WHAT HE HAS SAID LIKE, IT DIDN'T EXIST. IF ANYONE HAD SAID A COMMENT ABOUT A "PIG" AND MICHELLE IN THE SAME SPEECH, THE NEWS WOULD BE SAYING HOW OUTRAGEOUS THIS IS AND IT WOULD BEEN SEEN AS POLITICAL SUICIDE... BUT ALL BETS SEEM TO BE OFF, ON WHAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT V.P. PICK PALIN AND HER FAMILY. AND "PALIN GATE" WILL END UP AT A DEAD-END, LIKE THE DEMOCRATS PICKING THE WRONG AFRICAN-AMERICAN MAN TO BE PRESIDENT! I'D TAKE REVEREND JESSE JACKSON, OR BETTER YET COLIN POWELL ANY DAY TO THIS "A-BOMINATION".

    Miss Worried
There are so many things wrong with your response I don’t even know where to start. So I'm just going to go line by line. I will not even pretend to try to change your mind because one; your mind is already made up and two; you have totally closed your mind to a black man being president you are ready to dismiss the possibility that he might be a good person. However it sounds to me confused that you believe the attacks of people accusing Obama of being a Muslim. First of all Obama is not a Muslim, not even McCain believes that. I really get upset when people flat out lie about Obama’s faith, when he has made it totally clear that he is a Christian.

Now I ask you this. Are you hearing yourself when you talk? Why would spread lies about someone? There isn’t one piece of truth in your whole statement. Your entire argument isn’t based in any facts or logic. It’s all emotional. You really need to do your homework and stop believing the media.

Who are the rich? Yes, Obama is well off, no one doubts that, however so is McCain. The man has 9 homes. Did you throw his name in the mix? No you did not. Instead you now attack me saying that I'm pointing fingers at the Republicans. Show me where I said Republicans in my statement. Not once did I mention it. You put it there. You put words in my mouth, just as any good McCain supporter would do.

The fact of the matter is that George Bush has been an awful president. He has done nothing for this country other than bring it down to its knees. Single handedly he has more than doubled the national debt, made the rest of the world hate us after everyone felt pity for us during 9/11 and you have the gall to say that it’s the democrats fault. Who is pointing fingers now? I never said this is the republicans fault.

What saddens me the most is that you actually believe that Obama is a Muslim spy that is trying to take office. What an imagination you have. You should write for Hollywood. I haven’t seen a good story like that since I saw “Loose Change”. You want conspiracy theories? How about the one that says the George Bush and his cabinet planned the whole 9/11 attacks just so that we would have an excuse to attack Iraq and get the Patriot Act enacted? What do you think about that? Ridiculous right? Yes, it is ridiculous just like your delusions about Obama.

BTW, if Obama had picked Hillary as his running mate as so many people wanted him to do, I would’ve lost all respect for him. Hillary disagreed with him on everything, why would anyone pick someone who disagrees with them to be their running mate, that would make no sense at all. Picking Hillary would’ve been a tactic to get votes, and it would’ve cost him mine. I was pleased to hear he didn’t pick her. I like Hillary. I think she’s a great politician, very smart and had the country best intensions at heart. She would’ve made a fine president. I have nothing against her, but I'm glad that Obama did not give in to those tactics.

The reason why seniors don’t like Obama is simple. Lies! People have spread rumors about him from the beginning. He’s a Muslim, he refused to put his hand over his heart during the pledge of allegiance, he’s taken money from this guy or that guy, he doesn’t like veterans. They are all lies and because people have pictures, seniors believe everything that is in print, they aren’t aware of the urban legend concept. So they fall for it. So the fact that your mother doesn’t like Obama doesn’t impress me. However, you are young and you should know better.

I don’t understand your problem with immigrants being given freebies. I'm not sure what you are referring to. Let me explain something to you about immigrants thought. First of all, this country was not only founded by immigrants, but it was built by them. The only native people to this country were wiped out by us and disease brought here by us. I'm not going to beat a dead horse with a stick, my point is that I am so sick of hearing about immigrants taking over this country. The statue of liberty says, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…” I doesn’t say anything about keeping people way. What kind of message is that, that we welcome people to this country and then kick them out?

Speaking of health care, Obama wants to make it easier for YOU to get health care, McCain will make it harder. Of course that is an opinion, but one that I don’t think is without merit.

I am not sure why you felt the need to share your abortion story with me or all of us. I thought that was odd since I didn’t say anything about abortion. But anyways, thank you for sharing that with me and let me just say this. I think doctors are idiots, idiots just like the rest of us, but just because they are doctors they think they know everything and they think they are gods. Not all of them of course, but I would say most of them do. I am really sorry that your doctor insisted that you had an abortion, if I had been you I would’ve told him to stick his stethoscope up his ass and leave you alone. That was really shitty that your doctors pressured you for an abortion, and I am really happy that your daughter is I hope happy and healthy. Jena is a beautiful name. That is actually the name me and my wife picked out if we ever have a girl.

I'm glad that you brought up the Pig thing. I am willing to bet you didn’t watch the whole speech where Obama used that metaphor. Don’t lie now! You didn’t cause if you had, you would never had thought that he was calling Palin a pig. In fact he wasn’t even talking about her. Obama was referring to McCain’s economic plan. He was trying to explain to his listeners that McCain’s economic plan was identical to Bush. To be honest, I don’t know if that is true or not, but he was not and he did not refer to Sara Palin as a pig. That is a HUGE example of how McCain takes Obama’s words and twists them.

That pig metaphor is one that is used quite a lot in politics. Dick Chaney has used it and so has McCain. In fact McCain used it to describe Hillary’s economic plan, there’s irony for you. Now I ask you, did McCain mean to call Hillary a pig with his words? NO he did not. Neither did Obama.

And turn off the caps please. I had to read your text 4 times to understand it!

    Worried,

With all due respect your views are pretty out there and you can't spell. It's 'genius' and 'panic'. The Obama is a Muslim stuff completely discredits you no matter how you try to portray it. Just acknowledge what is abundantly clear, you're deeply prejudiced and that's why you don't like Obama. Your ignorance and what it says about so many Fox informed voters is frightening. As I listen to Palin's interview with Couric it dawns on me that McCain has picked the one politician less intelligent as Bush to be his VP. George Will no less (look up who he is) says that McCain is showing worrying leadership choices with his recent decisions. Bush had 6 years of being President with a Republican congress and you blame everything on Democrats? Sorry but that's bizarre...

Emphasize also energy and gasoline concerns.

[From a former member of US Navy and PhD.]

The debate revealed exactly what I have been noticing in McCain on various occasions. I realize that unless you have served in the Navy you wouldn't realize what was happening last night. And, further you would need to have served aboard ship to fully understand McCain's attitude during last night's debate.

Aboard naval vessels there is the area where commissioned officers live and eat, definitely separated from the enlisted personnel. The deck is painted green as opposed to the rest of the ship's deck that is painted gray. This is designated as "Officers' Country" and enlisted personnel are prohibited from passing through it. The green color is notice to all enlisted personnel that they are in forbidden territory. The officers have a separate mess with that name. They are served by stewards, an official rate in the Navy. In spite of Truman desegregating the armed forces, during the Korean War stewards were always black personnel. The rate badge on their sleeves was a quarter moon. Stewards not only prepared meals for the commissioned officers, they were also waiters and scullery servants.

During my experience in the Navy there was still a strong barrier between enlisted and officer personnel in the Navy. I have no idea what it is like now, but I doubt that it had changed during the Vietnam War when McCain served. Another facet about the Officers' Mess" was that they could proceed to that area and demand food, and I assume drink, at any time during the day or night, and there was always a black cook and waiter available "on duty" to see to their wants. Among the "Naval Aristocracy" of which McCain was a charter member having been a grandson and son of admirals there is an assumption that they are the "cream of the crop" so to speak. Again, I stress, one has to have been an enlisted man in the Navy and especially aboard ship to really understand that very definite atmosphere. On every occasion that I happened to observe officers around black stewards it was obvious that the officers never recognized the presence of the stewards as shipmates.

During the debate last night I saw something that brought me directly back to my Navy days and "Officers' Country", and the stark elitism that existed and probably still does create the aforesaid barrier. McCain refused to look at Senator Obama during the entire debate in spite of Jim Lehrer's vehement request to do so. McCain showed his rudeness and contempt for Obama by that refusal and by his sneers and seething anger beneath the forced smirks that were intended to be smiles, not of fellowship of equality, but of condescension. I remember being taught to always look someone in their eyes when talking WITH them.

McCain's remarks toward Obama were also a reflection of his elitism and contemptuous attitude. Further analysis of McCain's performance at the debate shows his basic insecurity, most likely stemming from Obama's superior education and intellect. We must remember that McCain's standing in his class at Annapolis was much less than one would expect from an admiral's son and grandson. Perhaps Obama's election as President of the Harvard Law Review a notable accomplishment regardless of race bothers McCain . It is a racism that McCain was born into. He has little control over it after spending twenty years in "Officers' Country" being waited on by black sailors as he waited impatiently to be promoted to "Admiral". However, as a candidate for the Presidency of the United States, he might look into a mirror and determine to hide that racism more effectively. Should he, by some miracle be elected to that high office, it is frightening that he would be meeting international heads of state, many of whom are racially different than this Naval Aristocrat.

How do we push to drive the presidential debates more to ideas?
Character IS a key issue. However, its too too easy to be bamboozeled.

People who are politically right scare more easily than those who are politically left says a Scientific American article.

    http://www.sciam.com/blog/60-second-science/pos...

It makes sense considering that conservatives mostly base their arguments on fear. Fear of inexperience vs. appreciation of judgment, fear of foreign powers vs. appreciation of diplomacy, fear of competing ideologies vs. appreciation of diversity, fear of God vs. appreciation of relativity.

Very profound. Obama may suck, but McCain is a liar and a loser. He's been trying to run for office since 2000 and nobody wanted him. All of the sudden he's in demand? He graduated practically dead last in his class, crashed a couple of planes, got captured by Viet Cong and they broke him. He cheated on his first wife with Cindy and then when they got married she made him sign a pre-nup. He thinks the president of Germany is Putin, he can't pronounce the name of the new Pakistan president, he's got no real plans, he's got a loser for a vp that he's is hiding from everyone. And this is this guy you think is a better candidate than Obama. I think you suck!

Hey, what happened to Ron Paul? Check "google trends", punch in McCain, Obama and Ron Paul:

The guy was more popular than anyone by far until the media jumped on Obama and McCain!

    How does that work?
  • OCKerouac · 1 year ago
    What happened to Ron Paul?

He lost the nomination... That's how our political system works... See, you run for office, and if you lose, you don't get to keep going... Sorry, but them's the rules...
  • Jules · 1 year ago
Did you just not get my point or was this your serious reply? The point was: go to google trends, type in the 3 names and look how Ron Paul was way more popular on the internet until the other media ignored him and focused on Obama and McCain.

So presumably the media have a large effect on who we like and who we don't. More exposure means more popularity it seems, no exposure means a loss of popularity.

I'm not a Ron Paul fanatic, I'm not ignorant of the workings of the electoral system, I am just pointing out something that seemed intriguing: without the media jumping on the race, everybody loved Ron Paul; media start covering 2 of the 3 candidates more and we shift.

How can Americans seriously support someone who's greatest strengths are their charm, good looks and winks with NO SUBSTANCE, except canned memorization? Aren't we smarter than this? Or are we living in a bad reality TV program and people can't tell the difference. McCain is NOT Main Street with 7 homes, one having 15 bedrooms...he doesn't have a clue...so "doggone it" , let's make sure he doesn't get elected.
  • Kyle · 1 year ago
    1) He does not live in the houses, and also his WIFE owns them as INVESTMENTS, not places to live.

    2) You are implying that Obama has substance and speaks without a script (he uses a teleprompter whenever possible)!

OK... Than vote McCain because Obama uses a teleprompter... That's brilliant...

Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama this AM reminded us of the loss of a great leader thru the Cheney mill. It was thoughtful, controlled, and had a gravitas American politics has missed for many years.
Memo to Obama -- reach across the aisle. Powell as next Supreme Court Justice.

Sarah Palin's speech today in Ohio talks about the Biden comment that there will be test for Obama
if he is elected president - definitely injecting doubts about Obama's inexperience. True, it will be a test for Obama. But moreso, it will be a test for the entire nation, whether we can get our act together.
It will be a test for the American people whether we choose wisely. It will be a test whether America
deserves to be looked up as a mature democracy. It will be a test whether Obama can inspire the
American people to overcome these tests whatever it may be. Obama inspires me and I will stand up to the tests and challenges that will come our way. Obama can count on that. Joe for Obama

I don't understand how McCain's is considered honorable, considering that he blew to bits uncounted innocents. It's interesting how Americans can still honor the acts of agression against other countries, but a sea-change in perspective needs to happen here in the US before we stop.

Chris Rock ... one of the 96% of Blacks voting for Obama, ... and, he's also a celebrity ... What a surprise that he's in the tank for Obama.

  • Brandon · 1 year ago
So what you're saying is if Black Americans vote for Obama it is no surprise due to their color? With this logic, it is no surprise when a White American votes for McCain.

As an educated black male myself I was open to both parties, but only one has provided me with the substance that I was looking for. Only one has a Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidate that I would not mind seeing in power and dealing with matters of national and international importance. But because I am voting for Obama, I must not be surprising you.

Give us 96% a Republican candidate that is worth voting for and you will be surprised. Until then, drop the racist attitude towards the election.
